Hyper Light Drifer: A dream come true

Being a gamer in the past several years has been an interesting experience. On one hand, we have been blessed by some of the best games ever created. We have been able to watch our little hobby grow to such amazing heights! No longer are we quietly talking about a boss fight with a group of friends around a lunch table. Its a conversation that more people are joining and because of this, gaming has gained a level of legitimacy that before now, was just a dream.

Kickstarter is many things to the gaming industry, but a solid platform helping create fully realized experiences hasn’t been one of them. Of course, every new venture has its success stories and that’s exactly when I’m writing this. Hyper Light Drifter is going to be Kickstarter’s next success story.

The guys over at Heart Machine have been hard at work after their game got funded last year, bringing to life what I could only have described to you as true vision. They set out to combine the nostalgia of old school games with the systems that have been in place for years now with more recent titles. Hyper Light Drifter is nothing short of a love letter to fans of gaming.

Hyper Light Drifter combines fast-paced combat with gorgeous locales and then fills that world with challenging encounters, obstacles, and a just steep enough learning curve to make the game truly an achievement to succeed in! This game, in just the preview state I’ve played, fulfills all promises and hopes. The platforming is accurate yet punishing. The combat is fluid and fast paced, yet meticulous. Dodging around cutting rockets in half, only to slay all the enemies behind you with what is now two halves of a rocket is just one of the insane feats you can pull of within the playground Heart Machine has created!

With 2015 just around the corner and having an indie game of this caliber releasing on PC, WiiU, Vita, Xbone, and PS4, its going to be a great year!

You can still buy in to the preview build which ends on October 30th at their site, Heart-Machine.comfor $25.00. This gets you a steam key,  DRM free copy, PDF Art Book, and access to the preview build. Make sure to follow them on twitter too, @HeartMachineZ!
