ESO Dropping Subscription Fee!

Good news RPG fans! Remember Elder Scrolls Online? A lot of people played it in beta and decided they wouldn’t pay $15 dollars a month for. Were you one of those people that said, “If this loses the monthly fee, I’ll play the shit out of it!”? News just broke that they are going to drop the monthly fee in favor of a Guild Wars 2-esque business model.

If you have already purchased ESO, you are all good. You will be invited back and you can play as much as you want. New players will have to purchase the game, which is currently on sale for $29.99 on Amazon, at the time of this article. That’s 50% off and its currently a prime item as well!

The only downside is Bethesda isn’t 100% comfortable with dropping the monthly fee thing yet, so there will be Premium DLC released that will be accessible through an ESO Plus Subscription. These subscriptions will come in 30, 90, and 180 day allotments.

ESO Plus will give you:

  • An allotment of crowns to spend in the new in-game Crown Store based on your membership period (more below)
  • Access to all of ESO’s downloadable content (or DLC) game packs for the duration of your membership
  • A 10% bonus to XP and gold gain, crafting research, and inspiration

According to their site.

This is mostly great news! The ESO Plus thing a little bit of a bummer, but more than likely this will fall of at some point, and the game will go completely free-to-play. Until then, you can explore the entire base game for a one time purchase. This seems to be the case for MMO’s unless you are World of Warcraft or EVE Online.
