For those of you that haven’t seen this game before, you are in for a treat. If you are or have ever been a fan of Coolboarders, SSX, Jonny Moseley Mad Trix you should do yourself a favor and check out this game!
SNOW is in the early access program on steam but on its release it will be a Free-to-Play, open world, winter sports game. It is currently being built by Poppermost Productions. Doesn’t that sound awesome? Imagine you and a group of friends or strangers starting at the top of a huge mountain and just enjoying the ride down.
I have personally been waiting for a game like this to come out for a while now, so when I heard about SNOW I was on board right away. The amount of care put into each detail of this game is simply astounding and the environments are so incredibly rich. The controls are very responsive and the engine is realistic enough to give a real challenge to any gamer wanting to conquer the mountain. My only major gripe about the game was the lack of sound effects. I was that kid that stopped playing World of Warcraft when my sound card melted because it just wasn’t the same. For me, sound is a huge aspect in the overall enjoyment of a game.
Sound design does everything from set the mood of an area to letting you know your attacks are landing, even making you “feel” each hit. The omission of the whoosh of your skis across the surface of the fresh powder left me wanting more. Now, with the M4 update (released September 24th) for SNOW , I can finally ski down a massive mountain, hearing each carve and landing without ever leaving Nashville or risking possible collisions with rocks on the way down.
All in all, this new update added the only thing that was keeping me from sinking hours into an already enjoyable experience. I for one will be hitting the virtual slopes as soon as I finish writing this!
SNOW is an interesting addition to the list of upcoming F2P titles, and is definitely one that deserves your attention. It is currently available on steam early access for $14.99.
